What happen if all of a sudden a movie star decides to quit acting?

Ke Huy Quan, famously the child actor who played Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and who played Data in The Goonies, quit acting outright when he realized that the only roles for him were either racist stereotypes or other things he didn’t want to play. It wasn’t a good time to be a Chinese-American child actor in a still quite racist Hollywood.
That’s one example. Rick Moranis is another example.
So he quit. He left acting.

The guy was almost a staple of family-friendly comedic movies in the 90s. Then his wife died, and he decided that his kids’ well-being was more important than his career. He was just gone from live-action acting.
He left quite abruptly. Then he came back quite abruptly as well.
That is, until he saw the movie Crazy Rich Asians, and saw that maybe there was a place for him in Hollywood again, and he came back.
